About

Pick 'n Role Models gives girls basketball teams in lower-income communities the opportunity to go to higher-level women's basketball games and find their life-long role models. By watching live women's basketball games, girls are up-close and personal with the players. They can watch them play and learn from them. If girls have strong female role models that they can relate to, they will be inspired to achieve their goals, in basketball or in other aspects of their lives. By age 17, 51% of girls quit sports. I am certain that this statistic would drastically change if watching women's sports was more accessible.

Going to games is also great for team bonding. Girls watching and talking about basketball together can help them grow and learn so much as a team.

Usually, the only girl's basketball teams that I see at higher-level women's basketball, like WNBA or college, are AAU teams that can afford to get tickets. Girls who play AAU and have enough money to watch live basketball end up playing basketball longer than girls who don't. Girls who can't afford to play AAU should be able to have the same role models to motivate them. I have been playing basketball for 10 years now, and I have never lost my motivation to play. I think that by watching the WNBA for so many years and having so many strong female role models that I can relate to, it motivates me to get better. If these girls who wouldn't otherwise be able to watch the WNBA fall in love with the WNBA as much as I have, I think that the next generation of girls basketball players will have an even greater love for the game.

Also, on this website, Facebook, Twitter and on the mailing list, updates on the best camps ran by women's basketball teams and players all over the country will be posted.

All girls deserve to have strong, female athletes as role models, no matter what their background is. Watching basketball, especially women's basketball, is so important for young girl's basketball players, and Pick 'n Role Models will give girls the opportunity to experience it.
